Women’s health—prolapse

Pelvic organ prolapse is a common problem for women that can significantly affect quality of life. It occurs due to weakness of or damage to the structures which hold the pelvic organs in place. This causes one or more of the pelvic organs (bladder, bowel and uterus or womb) to bulge against or sag down into the vagina.

For detailed information about pelvic organ prolapse including types, symptoms and treatment options please read the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare’s publication: Pelvic organ prolapse.
