Colonoscopy: GlycoPrep-O® bowel preparation (standard)

Follow these instructions for a MORNING procedure

What you will need?

Glycoprep O kit, which contains:

  • Bisacodyl tablets (3 x 5mg tablets in a blister pack)
  • Magensium Citrate sachet  x1
  • GylcoPrep-O x3 Sachets (70g each sachet)

Optional: Macrogol (Movicol) x ___ sachets

The following instructions give a step by step guide to prepare your bowel for your procedure.

Four days before procedure         /      /      

  • Commence Low Fibre Diet: (see ‘Colonoscopy – Patient information’ booklet for diet suggestions).

​​Macrogol (Movicol) instructions: 

  • Take _____ sachets of Macrogol (Movicol) _____time(s) a day from _____days prior to procedure. 
  • Mix each sachet in 125mL water. Do not take any further Macrogol (Movicol )after starting to drink GlycoPrep.

In the morning:

For breakfast:

  • You may have a light breakfast (low fibre diet).

After breakfast:

  • Do not eat any further solid food. Start drinking clear fluids only. Please drink an extra cup (200ml) of clear fluid each hour during the day.

 

At 2 pm:

  • Take the three Bisacodyl tablets with a full glass of water and continue to sip clear fluids.

 

At 5 pm - 5.30 pm:

  • Drink the Magnesium Citrate solution and continue to sip clear fluids.

At 7 pm - 8.30 pm:

  • Only drink two (2) litres GlycoPrep-O and keep the last (one) litre for the morning. Take 1-2 glasses every 15-20 minutes.
  • Sip on clear fluids while you are drinking the GlycoPrep to keep you hydrated.
  • At bedtime, set your alarm for 4 am.

  • 4 am – 5 am: drink the final one (1) litre of GlycoPrep-O. You may drink up to 200ml (1 glass) of fluid until 6 am.
  • At 6 am Take your usual morning medications with a sip of water at 6 am, unless instructed otherwise. Stop drinking ALL types of fluid.  No chewing gum or lollies. 
  • Arrive at the Endoscopy unit, Level 5, Mater Hospital at the time your letter or text message indicates. You should expect to be at the hospital for several hours.

  • At 11 am: Stop drinking ALL types of fluid.  No chewing gum or lollies. 
  • Arrive at the Endoscopy unit, Level 5, Mater Hospital at the time your letter or text message indicates. You should expect to be at the hospital for several hours.
