Mater Mothers' first aid for babies

Mater Education, in collaboration with Mater Mothers’ Hospitals, offer a first aid course specifically for parents with babies.

The course has been developed to equip parents with the knowledge, skills and confidence to care for their baby should they face an emergency, and is another step to continuing Mater’s exceptional care into the home.

During the 2.5 hour course, participants will learn to identify, respond to and manage common infant injuries and emergencies immediately, and to identify when to go to hospital.

The hands-on session includes information on:

  • resuscitation (CPR) for infants and young children
  • choking
  • poisoning
  • burns
  • bleeding
  • fractures
  • allergic reactions
  • respiratory illnesses.

The course was developed by a highly qualified and experienced team including educators who have trained Mater’s exceptional staff and emergency clinicians. It is endorsed by clinicians working across both Mater Mothers’ Hospitals’ Neonatal Critical Care Unit and Mater Children’s Private Brisbane.

Cost

The course costs $90 per person or $160 per couple, and this includes a booklet and quick reference magnet. Mater Mums receive a second registration at half price, paying only $135 for two people to attend.
