After birth—discharge information: resources and links for parents

Please go to our After birth—information for new parents online brochure for reliable information and support to help guide you through these first early weeks. It has links to After birth—care of the new mother and After birth—care of your new baby brochures.

These have all the information you might require in the first early weeks of your baby’s life. This includes:

  • sleep and settling
  • feeding your baby
  • care of your baby’s umbilical cord
  • care of your baby if he/she has jaundice
  • information on when you should contact your doctor or the hospital

It is also very important to be aware of the newborn screening test that all newborn babies have. Please read about it in the Baby—newborn screening test brochure.

You should already have the form for this test to take to the nearest Pathology collection centre if your baby was not tested in hospital.
