Pregnancy—fees for maternity services for self-insured women
Mater Mothers’ Private Hospital provides care for mothers and babies during antenatal, labour, birth and postnatal periods.
With clinical outcomes among the best in the world, Mater Mothers’ Private Hospital helps to birth more than 4,000 babies each year.
The hospital offers a comprehensive pre-admission service, including streamlined bookings and admissions, antenatal education programs and gentle exercise in pregnancy classes designed and conducted by physiotherapists.
Each self contained birthing room provides a warm and home like atmosphere where your midwife will assist you to achieve your individual birth plan.
For your comfort and privacy each single room in the postnatal unit includes an ensuite bathroom, baby bathing facilities, telephone, television and a refrigerator.
You will also have access to allied health professionals, natural family planning information, parenting education and pastoral care services, at no extra cost, during your hospital stay.

Financial requirements
- Natural birth
- You will be required to pay $5 000 one month before your expected date of arrival to secure your booking.
- We have estimated the fees for a standard birth, which includes four nights accommodation.
- Any portion of the monies not used will be refunded.
- Any monies owing are required to be paid on discharge.
- Caesarean birth
- You will be required to pay $6 200 one month before your expected date of arrival to secure your booking.
- We have estimated the fees for a standard caesarean birth, which includes five nights accommodation.
- Any portion of the monies not used will be refunded.
- Any monies owing are required to be paid on discharge
Please note—accommodation charges commence from the time of admission to the Mater Mothers’ Private Hospital.
The hospital reserves the right to alter rates at its discretion. Fees will be honoured at the time your booking is made.

Direct debit
A regular debit to your credit card can be arranged. Four equal payments of $1250 (natural birth) or $1550 (caesarean birth) are processed monthly commencing five months prior to the date your baby is due.
Fees do not include:
- obstetrician or paediatrician
- anaesthetist
- pathology
- neonatal critical care
- antenatal accommodation
- antenatal procedures
- education classes
- partner meals
- pharmacy items.
